This base was responsible for the air defence of Prague and to provide one of the layers of air defence for the Warsaw Pact as a whole, the base was built between 1981-1985 in secrecy, the base is equipped with bunkers, high rise radar ramps and barracks buildings, although I didn’t get around all of these sadly due to time constraints. There are at least another 2 of these bases in the former Czechoslovakia for the air defence of cities, looking on google maps they look exactly the same as this one and appear to still be standing. The bases were equipped with S-200 missiles and various radars, namely the 5N62V ‘Square Pair’, the radars were fitted atop of the ramps, which are huge and very interesting in terms of design, none of these exist in any other Warsaw Pact countries. The base is atop of a 600m hill, which we climbed last summer in 35-40 degree heat, so it is quite a hard trip if you go in the summer. The base was made famous as it is featured on the game ‘DayZ’ a survival game set in a former Soviet Republic, the developers studio is not far from this base, hence the reason it is featured. Enjoy the pictures.
