Baby brother, Leicester
Explored with KM_Punk, The Shepshed Diamondback and Miss Mayhem
Nothing amazing, but a good way to lose a couple of hours.
It’s nearly a year since KM_Punk and I looked at this tiny side pipe off Baleful Culvert.
If you’re a hobbit, then this starting as a 5’ stoop isn’t too bad.
After a few chambers we reached the 4’ slippery plastic pipe (which I failed to capture again!).
KM_Punk decided he’d be better off on his knees and the other 2 followed suit.
In wellies!
I opted to stay on my feet and stay dry. Again being a hobbit, this wasn’t too bad.
Two more chambers and it’s back to concrete but rectangular this time and just 3’ high.
On the right of this chamber an extra wall has been built almost to the roof.
Behind it is this.
Possibly the original drain and now serving as an overflow?
Sorry for the blur, I couldn’t get my head behind the camera.
On the left of the chamber is a very straight 18” side pipe
From this chamber it’s back to round and down to 2ft 6inches.
I stopped here and let the other 3 carry on for a hundred yards before they turned back, sliding all the way!
All of the chains had toilet paper etc wrapped round them, so we’re both still convinced there’s pooh up here somewhere.
When we stopped I climbed the rungs in a chamber and had a look through the lid.
Couldn’t believe I actually recognised the building I could see and the lid was in the middle of a broad, quiet pavement!
We will return to this! (But not until we’ve sought some advice)
I was acting pretty smug that I’d stayed dry whilst they were basically soaked from the waist down,
then of course I stepped straight into the brook and breached both wellies.
Note to self: helmet and waders next time!
