Did a solo visit of this place on the way home from a visit to Scotland. It was always known as one of the most hit and miss places about. Buildings open and then close instantly. This is due to the fact that even though people are freely aloud to walk around the site they do have secca there who drive around the site all the time. So its hit and miss if a building is open. I just went with the hope of finding some open. Luckily I got into three buildings. The intention was to take a lot of exterior shots as some of the buildings are beautiful. But the weather was atrocious so in the end I never bothered after getting a soaked camera and lens after two shots so gave up. Bangour village hospital was built in 1906 as a psychiatric hospital originally under the name Edinburgh district asylum. It was modelled on a hospital in Germany in that it was set spread out in villas to give it that village feel. It had its own bakery and workshop, library, shop and school and other various things. It was used by the war office in both wars, just as a lot of hospitals were then. It finally started winding down in the nineties with the final ward shutting in 2004. There was talk of demolition of a lot off the buildings here with some being retained for conversion. If I remember rightly they had a real problem here last year. When someone put on FB something and hordes of people descended on the place. Was even families with kids going for a day out and security was overwhelmed.

The first building was the main hospital block. It was quite repetitive inside, and had some of the most dangerous floors I have seen. Being in the back of the site it had been hit hardest by vandals but luckily not too bad.

Next up I found a small villa that I happened to find a small way in. It was not huge but had some fantastic decay in it.

The last building up is the old laundry hall. Not sure if it was used for anything else. But if it was just for laundry it was pretty grand indeed. As I was coming out it was all clear. Then security decided to drive past so had to quickly jump back in.

Were I guess would have been the washing machines had been overtaken by ferns. Maybe water had leaked in here from the old plumbing to create this greenery.

Some really dingy damp rooms at the back. Including a dark small waterlogged office.

One that I've never had any luck at, I believe most of it is gone now, or at least well on the way to being developed.

It seems you were either lucky or not here depending on the day. I would have loved to have seen the hall. I did think a lot had been demolished now.

That looks pretty nice. Most photos I've seen of any of the insides. Good work!

lovely shots. The place looks collapsible in the first part. But there is a lot of beauty there. The second part looks in better condition. Bonus having lots of your favs there. I really like the shot of the top of the stairs with that patch of greenery. Not sure Id take kids here though!

Thank you Jane. Some of the floors were a bit sketchy. The second and third were far more solid. Yeah plenty of toilets here to get at. Yeah I don't think it's a great place for kids.
