Arrived at the railway tunnel expecting it to be left in a horrible state, on arrival we could see the entrance all locked up but a car parked up , decided to go and take a look anyway, after a quick chat with the owner he told us that the tunnel was turned into a private shooting range many years ago. After a quick chat and an explanation of what we were there for we got invited in and told to take your time as members of the shooting range were not due in for a while, he even turned the lights on in the tunnel, top guy and invited us back anytime we wanted.
Built in 1897 the tunnel through Redbrink Point was used to access the Pierhead station, the other side of the tunnel came out on the coast line. The last boat train left Barry Pier on 11th October 1971 and the station closed a week later. The tunnel was later bricked up and bought by a private buyer and turned into a shooting range.
The other end of the tunnel is used by Barry Boat Club
