Big Humpty - Manchester
This is a relatively short culverted section of the River Medlock, but it's big, wide and egg shaped, hence the name.
One of these places I know I should have done for years, it's been on the list. If there was a Northwest draining apprenticeship list this would probably be number 1, Medlock Culvert not too far downstream would be a good number 2. 2017
A few spare hours meant I was looking for something out of the rain, looks just as egg shaped once you get inside. Choice was left or right side, both in the end were not too bad as long as you were ready for the odd slip.
Great place to spend an hour or so, long enough that you can't see either end due to a bend. But close enough you get some fantastic natural light from both ends.
If you like taking photo it's a great place to play, if you just enjoy exploring it's a great starter for before Medlock Culvert and the other courses that lie downstream.
If you love brick culvert porn; this has plenty of bricks to tickle your fancies.
A shame the end appears just that bit too soon, but that's what a starter is meant to be. It just gets the taste buds tuned and desiring more.
Looking at the downstream end, was a pleasant stroll.
Time for me to get on with the 4 or 5 main courses to come and possibly a pudding to finish off.
Great wee culvert,
Cheers,
TLR.
