Video coming in the next couple days, be on the lookout. Just finishing it off. I will make a little video report with a link
The Day
Wanted a cool place to revisit because I wanted to test out a new style of video at a place I feel comfortable with exploring freely, so I could take a bit more time filming, therefore I decided to return to Southport.
History (from another report)
Originally built in 1904 as a boys boarding school it was taken over in 1948 by The Liverpool School for the Deaf. The name was later changed to the Birkdale School for Hearing Impaired Children. It was eventually closed in 2003 and has been empty since. One end of the main building was partially demolished after the inevitable fire in 2010. The most recent redevelopment project was rejected by the local council in 2011.
The Explore
The day started off pretty rainy and that but it picked up, which was a really good sign as the last time we came to this building, it had been a really foggy day and we couldn't really see the cool-looking main building, so we hoped for some clear weather to observe it better. We gained easy access, interestingly, there had been changes to the site in terms of demolition work on the area near to the swimming pool, however access had not changed and there was still blatantly open windows etc, next to the areas builders must have demolished.
The demolition hasn't ruined the site at all though, in fact it has made it easier to get into certain parts, and there is still the gym, classrooms and swimming pool all intact, which is definitely enough for a solid explore. We did find that someone had obviously tried to force their way into the near impossible main structure, as a board had been ripped a bit off and the glass behind it smashed, so I peered in and it looked wrecked and shitty in there and we couldn't be assed.
