Originally built in the 1820s, Bottoms Mill is one of Holme Valleyโs oldest mills. The iconic, 150ft red chimney was added in 1911 and acts as a landmark to this day. The mill relied on water from the River Holme, which was channelled via a narrow watercourse, known as a goit, into the Bottoms Mill pond. Today, the mill pond and goit remain as a haven for wildlife.
Currently the site is partially used by other businesses for storage as we came across an area full of boxes
The explore
After revising the nearby fletchers mill we decided to check this place out we were pretty tired and hungry at this point but thought best try it now before it got to dark, after some looking we found a way inside
The first areas were fairly empty
Eventually we came across some old machinery
Then an old staff room maybe? And smaller store rooms with the odd interesting thing in
We found the office area and after a tight squeeze we were in at this point it was dark outside so had to use the torches sparingly as to avoid unwanted attention which was a shame as ide of liked to have a good rummage round the offices but with windows facing the work yard we thought best to get some pics quickly
The main offices were in rather good condition lovely vintage style decor
A do have a soft spot for a vintage safe its like a work of art in itself
By this point we were both exhausted so decided to call it a night and headed for the local chippy before back to hotel
Thanks for looking
