Sandon quarry
located in the small village of sandon close to the city of chelmsford
cant find any info on this place but did speak to a local dog walker on the day and this site opened around 1950s and closed late 1990s
is still owned by Brett and planning has been submitted many times over the last few years and rejected every time to demolish whats there and build a waste incinerator on the site
that is all i know
the explore
stumbled on this place by mistake but thought is was worth a look
is all rusting away and mother nature is doing her thing
this place is very hidden surrounded by woodland
there is only one way into this place as its surrounded by Sandon brook

Thats pretty interesting, I lived in Sandon as a kid and spent many days exploring the gravel pits, but never got that far as we were always caught by the local farmer. Might have to revisit it!

Really interesting, went there yesterday with a mate to check it out - they've demolished all the old structures and I THINK changed the actual digging area - the area in the photos shown is now the sorting sites, but you can still access the main digging site of the quarry a bit further down - I'd like to know why they abandoned it and then decided to start working on the area again!
