Visited with Scotty and Tumbles.
Wooo this was a nice surprise for a Sunday afternoon! We had a poke around in the bushes (ooer) for a way in but had to go shopping and then came back later with "friends" (wink wink nudge nudge). When we finally got in, I thought we had just stumbled upon some old underground toilets (popular in Bristol) but it just went on and on and on.
We think it was originally a railway tunnel and then converted into an air raid shelter that catered for a large number of Bristol's residents along with the Clifton Rocks Railway. Once the war was over, some time after, it was used as a shooting range/rifle club. Evidence of both its uses are apparent throughout the shelter. The original toilets are still there and so is a lot of the corrugated walls but some of the ceilings have been suspended by the rifle club.
Amazingly, it has electricity:crazy which helped with the photos because I didn't bring a tripod or a torch so the pictures are very poor.
What a great way to spend a bank holiday, here's the pics!
