Since I haven't really been anywhere recently other than Old Castle Works, I thought I'd dig into my photos from an older explore and do a write up on it.

Calfaria was first established in 1881, a red brick building. After seven years, a newer chapel was built next door designed by a George Morgan of Carmarthen and this became the main chapel, while the other was used as a Sunday school. By 2006 the building was disused and fell into total disrepair, becoming a hotspot for vandalism and arson. Not a very thorough history report, I know.

Calfaria is in my opinion the standout chapel in Llanelli, looking like a great rotten gravestone at the bottom of a steep hill that most pass daily. It's been derelict for as long as I've lived here, and I spent ages as a teenager wondering what it looked like inside. One day in 2016, some members of a local exploring group on Facebook mentioned coming down Llanelli to have a nose at the chapel, and I eagerly joined up. It was pissing down with rain, so with a coat and boots on I trudged down the hill to meet up with the guys and we did a jog around the outside to scope out potential ways in. Now bear in mind that this chapel is surrounded on all sides by houses and a busy Londis, so getting in discreetly needed to be done fast. Eventually, an entrance was discovered that involved darting straight past the entrance in broad daylight of full view of the street. A bit of clambering later and voila, we entered the holy site of pigeon shit and burned wood!

Please excuse the quality of the photos, I wasn't very photographically minded back in 2016 and I had to save these photos from my Facebook album since I no longer have the originals.

Various outside shots, I didn't actually get many of the whole building. That back wall is higher than it might look!

Into the main chapel now. The absolute state of it is certainly something.

Then, after some Spider-manning my way across some scaffolding, I was in the original building. The condition wasn't as bad as the chapel, though that could just be due to the fact that it was a load of empty space used for storage. Not much to see, just junk.

This was 8 years ago and the place is still a state now. It's made local news, apparently being used for underage drinking and such so I imagine more steps will be taken to seal it back up. If you're a fan of pigeon shit and junk, then I recommend it I suppose.
