The hospital moved from Piccadilly to Cheadle in 1849 when the Piccadilly area became too built up, noisy and unsuitable for the mentally ill and changed its name to the Manchester Royal Lunatic Asylum. By the 1930s, the Hospital was able to pioneer treatments such as occupational therapy, the new 'shock treatments', insulin treatments and neurosurgical operations. As a private hospital, Cheadle became one of the most progressive mental hospitals in the country. In the 1990s, changes to the NHS resulted in severe financial problems and the closure of North Hospital.
Had a laugh getting access into this place, parked on the longgggg walk up side and definitely picked the bad patch of fence playing 'to me, to you' with gravity but hey we got there. Could quite happily waste a couple hours in here strolling along the corridors and taking in some of the colours in the graffiti. Very peaceful place, while the other buildings close by are in use there didn't feel any pressure to be sly around the site.
View of the site from the entry point through the hedge
First corridor on entry / some other corridor shots
A room not shy on modern artwork
The old steps
The majority of ceilings / floors within the rooms in the wings have mostly caved completely in. The structure thats left is the main walkways and stairs made from concrete.
Thanks for looking
