The main building (Laurels) was my first explore / thread in September 2011, demo'd the following month
So wasnt expecting too return but 42 months and 62 threads later here I am again.
Very strange on returning the land which once held the Laurels remains empty, the remaining buildings lie silent and
theres Hopewood Park (a new 50 million hospital) so theres alot of changes been made.
Managing too photograph three of the four 1930s buildings remaining,
except the secure unit, guess thats the reason its sealed, unless your petite which I aint.
The main lunatic asylum (Laurels) was designed by architect George Thomas Hine 1842 - 1916,
the foundation stone was laid by Ald Stansfield Richardson and opened in 1895 with some extensions in the 1930s.
closed in 1998 remaining empty until demo'd March - October 2011,
nothing remains of this now.
These buildings opened in the 1930s as annexe buildings,
in 1998 all sevices were transfered from the Laurels too here.
Cherry Knowles officially closed in 2013, now owned by the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA)
the remaining buildings will be demo'd.
Cherry Knowles will cease too exist,
because the new hospital which replaces it is called Hopewood Park.
