opened in1892 for the Mansfield ,Sheffield and Lincolnshire railway it is 474 yds long ,the trough route closed in 1963 but the tunnel was used up till 1964 to serve Hydes sidings in 1985 the northern portal was lost to the inner relief road ,there is a shaft with ladders at the northern end,the southern portal is hemmed in by large concrete walls .the tunnel is prone to flooding to several feet ,the floor of the tunnel is a mass of orange gooey mud ,2 baths later Binky still had a orange tint ,my Mrs was fuming at the state of Binky .visited with explorer dog Binky
