Christmas Common relay tower January 2015. I was looking for something to do and found out that this USAF microwave relay tower was only going to be a 30 minute drive. Couldn't have picked a better day specially in January it was cold but clear so got a good view at the top. Cant find much information about the place it was a US Air Force microwave relay station which linked the EUCOM war headquarters at High Wycombe, Bucks (Daws Hill)to the Upper Heyford F-111 base.
Here are some pictures and screenshots from the site plus a video of the climb

Tis a good climb! Everything was frozen and very slippery when I did it last year, going back in summer when the weather is a bit more clement.

Nice views of the countryside up there, pretty much identical to the one at Daws Hill by the looks of it. Good work :thumb

My father was the engineer in charge of the construction of this. He was a captain in the USAF and continued to work for the Us military. This was about 1955. It was part of the early warning radar system the US government put up in the UK. He installed another site at Portland in Dorset 5 years later. His name was John Elton La Motte.
