Cwm Coke was built in 1958 by the National Coal Board to centralise coke production in the South Wales coal field, with much of the coal coming from the neighbouring colliery.
The colliery was closed in 1986 and the coke works close in 2002.
Seeing as I was in the area, it seemed rude of me not to pay a visit to Beddau, after all it's not very often you get to visit an abandoned coke works. Unfortunately our visit was brief, as we had more pressing matters to attend to elsewhere... though it doesn't seem to be going anywhere
