Visited with @raisinwing, Deakin's Yard (aka, Sky Building) sits on the site that was once home to the Jubilee Swimming Pool which was demolished in 2015, the facility was a standard council run leisure centre with a pool, gym and fitness studios. The building was replaced with a new state-of-the-art facility next-door and the council placed the site up for sale. A number of bidders came forward at the time, with Primesight Developments quickly becoming the preferred partner. Work on the new 'Sky Building' began in mid-2016 with vertical construction visible later that year. Unfortunately, the developer would quickly run into trouble and go into administration. This would leave the site in purgatory for 6 years with a number of developers coming forward promising to finish off the project. None of these would come to fruition though.
That was until September 2023, when it was reported that a new owner had been found for the development, Integritas Property Group Ltd planned to complete the structure and rename the building as Deakin's Yard. The structure would include 273 units and is designed to cater to the needs of students. It includes 122 studios with en-suites, 127 studios with en-suites and kitchens, 10 one-bedroom apartments, and 14 accessible areas. The developers had hoped to complete the building by August 2024 so that it could welcome students for the upcoming academic year. Unfortunately, work overran and at the time of our visit in October a lot of the building was still awaiting internal fitting.
