The branch from Preston to Longridge opened in 1840 & is 6 1/2 miles long,
there's 3 tunnels from west to east Deepdale 160yds, Miley no. 1 272yds & no. 2 383yds
there's a 100yd cutting with retaining walls between the 2 tunnels held by concrete or wood braces because of subsidence.
The air shaft between no. 1 & no. 2 has been capped with concrete forming a continuous tunnel of 655yds.
There's refuges on both sides of the tunnel,
the branch closed in 1980 & a single track remains in situ on the left side of the tunnel.
west

this stagnant water requires waders rather than wellingtons
Deepdale tunnel
