Originally cracked by Goldie 87 and co, this great collection of buildings sits on the river Soar. The mills origins date back to 1739, and the buildings on the site date from the 18th C right through to post war additions. There are even some quite quaint cottages at the front, which I would say were well over 100 years old.
The jewel in the site's crown is the fine redbrick 4 story mill, blessed with a timepiece and tower, topped with a gilt weathervein in the shape of the company's logo, a leaping gazell. The pikeys have really gone to town on the roof, tearing slates up to reveal the lead and as a consequence the water is seeping in, causing the wooden floor to grow a white fungus, that is like skating on a rink to walk on!!
The clock is reached by climbing a piece of racking, which is just tall enough to reach. The top of the tower offers good views over Leiester and the river. Therewere some small loft spaces around the top which yielded some old packaging and bottles, as well as the clock workings, replaced in the 1980's, I assume from a wind up movement to an automated one.
All in all an enjoyable explore...
Not content with the lead, the pikeys have been pinching the steel steps too!
The pikey damage is really bad up the top of the oldest building.
Added my name to the many carved in the tower, some from early last century.
