Report - Dunlop Semtex rubber factory - Brynmawr - Aug '16

Completed in 1953, the Dunlop Semtex factory in Brynmawr, which is said to have inspired the Sydney Opera House, was the first building to receive listed status after World War II.

The wife wanted me to take her to see her gran in Blackwood, so I thought I'd do a cheeky 30 minute derp on the way home. So picked this small UrbEx. It's a nice explore and I enjoyed walking across the beams in the top floor.

I just had to google this place.

Semtex of the rubber type, not the explosive. Didn't know there was such a thing.

This was just the boiler house, the rest was demolished in 2001.

It's a shame, because the boilerhouse was pretty underwhelming compared to the amazing factory. I don't know why these islands of listed status get kept, it's virtually pointless as they're very use-specific.

Yea mate very easy, park up in Asda you can see the place from there. I personally picked a quieter spot further down the road to access it, but there are so many ways in through the fence. As I was leaving two young lads just went in through the fence right on the roundabout.

No worries mate. Yea I liked some of it's features, very different I thought. I wouldn't say it's worth going to just for this as it is quite small, I saw most of it in the 20 or 30 minutes I spent there. Maybe take in a few other near locations on the same trip.

Nice report there
