History
Firth Brown Medical Centre is one of the last remnants of Firth Brown Steels, one of Sheffield’s infamous steelmakers. To this day the company now exists as Sheffield Forgemasters. Amid the decline of the steel industry (see the Full Monty) much of Sheffield’s renowned past was demolished, making way for new commercial developments, but, in their haste the medical centre was somewhat forgotten and so now lies beneath the habitual eyes of society. Officially, the centre isn't actually underground, despite the car park that has been built on top of it. To be more precise it has been almost entirely encased in walls, dirt and earth. It is rumoured that more of the building potentially exists, beyond these decaying rooms…
Our Version of Events
This has been top of the list for some time, owing to the mystery and the interesting objects inside. One morning, after having researched quite thoroughly, we decided to have ourselves a little visit. After negotiating a precarious opening, we were in. We deliberately chose one of Sheffield’s finer days for our exploration, in the hope that our photographs wouldn't be too gloomy, but it was still fairly dark in there.
