Finally after 18 months I managed to get back to Sheffield to have a second attempt at the Firth-Vickers power house, this time with Angel (who'd also had her eye on the place). Well sealed up, but a bit of upper-body strength and a length of rope go a long way! This was the power station that supplied the large steelworks with electricity, and appears to have been built in the 1920s or 30s.
The only way to describe it is a time capsule. From the contents of the workshop to the posters on the walls, it all looks like it just got stuck in the late 1960s. It's incredible. A shame that a lot of the electrical equipment has gone, but the building and remaining contents are awesome.
