Had a free day this week whilst in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia. Was fortunate to be put in contact with a local Russian explorer, Yevgeny ‘fire’, Who was kind enough to take me round a few places.
Former wood pulping plant in Kaliningrad oblast Russia.
Built when the city was known as Königsberg it closed early 21st century and suffered massive fire damage destroying many of the buildings
When the area fell under USSR control for a period up until 1948 circa 600 German pows and 450 German and Russian civilians were utilised to operate the plant
On day of visit the only accessible area was the yeast storage vats (a by product of the process, sold on for alcohol production).
