Fort Girardin is part of The Fortifications of Saint-Quentin, or Feste Prinz Friedrich Karl (German)
Fort Girardin was partially built by the French between 1868 and 1871 and extensively developed by the Germans, during their occupation, between 1872 and 1892.
Its was used in both WW1 and WW2 and bombed burning the battle of Metz. It changed hands back and forth between the French and German occupying forces over the years.
The exterior is easily accessible as it connects to popular hiking trails in the area. Many parts of the interior are not accessible but some of the off limits parts are but require a bit of climbing.
