I have walked past this factory quite a few times and can gladly say I have now explored it. The building is pretty empty and covered in glass. Sadly my camera run out half way through so I didn't take as many shots as I would've liked to. It's a huge site though and loads to explore!
A man named Frank Whittle is known to have set up the factory which is known to be the first factory built just for jet engine production. The origional company was named Power Jets Ltd. By 1944 the company had 300 employees producing up to 20 engines a month. A lot of other things were developed here such as computer technology, robotics, wind turbines etc. I can't find any dates for when the factory closed down.
A couple of years back a section of the factory was burnt down there are some remains to show this.
Thanks for looking
