One cold winter night we in Dover doing some exploring when the last explore of the night was Guildford shaft
After hearing it was open we made sure that we done it .
The view over Dover at the time was nice and very light up .
Once inside we made are way around and to see a little airriad shelter inside was also a surprise some part was blocked off too . So I’m gonna guess what tbeh went somewhere els
The history from the old Kent history forum
Overhauled from 1775 to 1783 when the Guilford Battery was added.(named after the Guilford Lawn which the battery overlooked). And again in 1853 when much larger guns were installed.
The 214 step spiral staircase was cut to connect it with the castle.
It was used again during both world wars; four-hundred-years after it was first built.
