In need of some dark-time after a recent hiatus from having any success underground (apart from Holme Bank Mine) we visited this little beauty.
Haddon Tunnel was built to connect Matlock and Bakewell and opened in 1863. It is mainly built using the cut-and-cover method which is evident by the shallow ventilation shafts. I understand this was done to hide the railway from view of Haddon Hall.
Having forgotten to take boots/spare shoes this is probably the only explore that has started with someone (me) having to wade barefoot through 8 inches of water......
