On the edge of Fir Tree, a small village near Bishop Auckland in County Durham lies Helme Park Hall Hotel.
Dating back to 1643, Helme Park, original known as Elm Park Hall has had a range of functions throughout its life. During the Second World War it was home to Colonel Stobart, Commandant of the nearby Harperley Hall POW Camp, and then later was Regional Headquarters for the Forestry Commission.
In 1987, the Hall found a new life as a hotel, and proved a popular venue for functions and parties as well as serving good food.
The hotel closed suddenly last year after being up for sale for over £1,000,000. Planning permission has been sought for demolition of the hotel and the construction of 19 houses.
