My exploration of the Highway Flats in Leeds was quite a while ago, but, as life tends to go, other things got in the way...

From what I’ve found, these flats were built in the mid-1960s and had been vacant for some time. They’d been marked for demolition for years, and work finally began just a few weeks after I took these photos. The area lacks any real points of interest to attract new tenants, and judging by the condition of the rooms, the final residents were primarily elderly people and council tenants before the buildings closed down. Unfortunately, I couldn’t gain access to the second building, but from what I could see, most of the rooms looked similar to one another. It’s always a bit sad to see remnants of people’s lives left behind, but that’s often the reality with these places.

If you visit today, you’ll find an empty lot and a large pile of rubble where the buildings once stood. Demolition wrapped up around April 24, and as far as I know, planning permission for new residential development is still pending with the council.

As you can see, the bottom floors had been pretty trshed.

Rare to see an intact toilet in these places...

The second set of flats was surrounded with those automated police camera tri-pod things

No10 looked like it had seen some significant foot traffic...

The view from the higher levels was quite nice

Lift room at the top was pretty cool. Absolutely covered in bird droppings though so the smell was quite overpowering...

This is my first report and as such any and all critisism is welcomed.
I have some more exploration photos waiting to be edited from last year that will be up soon.
I'm currently in south London and will be starting to explore some places in the coming months so if youre in the area, wanna meet for an explore or just wanna chat, feel free to message me.

See you soon,

Decent first report that. Good you got these shots for posterity, before they got demo'ed.
I remember going past the site every day on the bus and wanting to get in but always said "later" until i saw the "DEMOLITION IN PROGRESS" sign go up lol.

Be careful around romms that are full of pigeon muck, you can inhale spores which can be quite dangerous. Wear at least an N95 mask

Looked into getting a mask for asbestos awhile back but didn’t end up going through with it because from what I read it wouldn’t help anyway. Wasn’t aware of droppings being dangerous so thanks for letting me know! I’ll probably try and pick up a mask next time I get paid!
