Thanks to @HughieD for the heads up, that this site could still be accessed... headed over with a non member and soon found the main entrance with what I assumed was the only way in, chained up very tightly! A quick walk close by and we soon found another (even tighter) way into the mine. You really do need to be of a very slim build for this... the gap between the rock face and metal barrier must only be about 2ft wide 😳
Apologies for the low quality images... we only used our phones and a 400 lumen torch. Spent a good 2 hours inside and it's honestly a maze of turns in every direction. Something we didn't think of, was how we're going to find our way back out.
We didn't explore the entire labyrinth, due to this reason! The daylight streaming in from one of the barred up entrances was a huge relief. Even then, it took a while to find our way back to the entry point... lesson learnt for next time.
Word of warning as per previous posts... the ceiling to this mine is in an extremely poor state in most parts. The wooden posts are, for the majority, basically turned to mush and the iron supports are only just holding up the huge chunks of rock above your head. Overall though, a really good explore, if slightly sketchy in most parts! For a first attempt, I think we did alright.
