1. The History
Holwell Pumping station is located near to Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. The main pumping station itself is still in use but this is most likely just to aerate the water of the reservoir which is now used by the Holwell Angling Club. The pipes into the reservoir were probably the intake pipes for the water supply to the former Holwell Iron Works and hence probably date back to the late 19th century. Beyond that there is little to no history on this place.
2. The Explore
This was an easy one in terms of access. Didn’t really know what to expect but in the circumstances, it was a really interesting wander. The derelict pump house to the left of the main building and the ivy-covered pipes that radiated out from the reservoir made the trip worthwhile.
