Visited With Dweeb, Thanks to the 'North Thames Urbex Gang' (or whatever they are calling themselves nowadays)
Surreal is probably the best word to describe this place. Im not a novice to underground relics of the cold war but we kept turning corners and it just felt strange. Some parts are what i expected, not much different to when it was a deep shelter just with a few more bits of plant, some bits however are just like some kind of underground 70s office block with crazy fake window scenes and false doors to nothing.. My only regret is not staying a few more hours to get more photos. There was plenty here i didnt get a chance to shoot. Disused shafts, crazy tunnels darting off in funny directions and funny levels. Even the empty cavenous tunnels added when the site was original converted to an exchange were pretty impressive as far as big underground spaces go. Still another life long dream realised so whos to complain!
High Holborn Entrance (as close as we could really get!)
Generator in the backup power plant
Rectifier Cabinets
Ventilation Plant (running)
'Cable Alley' aka the entrance to BT deep level cable network and certain death from laser gun wielding CCTV robots.
Somewhere on North Street / Power Plant Syncroscope
Backup Vent Plant
Main Power Plant
Transformer B
Notice
Dated Tunnel Segments in Goods Alley
Main Distribution Frame (MDF on the Map)
First Aid Room near 'Frame Alley' and No. 2 Shaft
North Street East near Tea Bar Alley
South Street Center near the Air Scrubbers (i think!) / Good Shaft Telephone
Recreation Room (minus pool table unfortunately!)
Possibly the least convincing 'window scene' ever in the Dining Room
And Another
The Bland but Surreal 'Kingsway Computer Centre' On North Street
Its the little things that make me happiest!
Misc switch box in the Control Room
Last but not east Cross Avenue where it all started to turn into an underground 70s office block.. :crazy
