Visited with Stussy and JFRSteve. This was part of a very enjoyable and eventfull trip to Aberdeen, big thanks to Stussy for surprising me with this explore. Ladysbridge Hospital is currently in the middle of demolition and a lot of the buildings were gone when we visited. However, it was still a very interesting explore.
Ladysbridge Hospital was bulit in 1865 and was designed in a Tudor, Gothic style by Alexander and William Reid. It was built using local grey granite and constructed stoutly to resist the North Sea gales. It was vested to the NHS in 1948, who re-developed it in the sixties. At it's peak it housed around 1000 patients of all ages, from children to geriatrics. It was still in use as a 600 bed Psychiatric Hospital in the 1980's, eventually being taken over by Grampian Primary Care Trust in 1999.
Latterly, Ladysbridge Hospital was used for people with Learning Disabilities and finally closed it doors in 2003.
