Ive actually made two visits to Longannet over the last few weeks. For the first i was in Scotland on other business with a trailer full of machinery (and a girlfriend) in tow so only had chance for a quick look. This lead to the organising of a second trip with @clebby and that night we spent a little more time inside (but maybe not as much as i would have liked!).
Finding a decent route in here took longer than i thought but once i found it was pretty simple stuff. The main problem with this place is that its just so vast i dont think you would stand much chance of getting away if you ran into someone. If you got spotted at the wrong end of the place it would take a good few mins to sprint out of the building let alone get back to the car and away before the police cordoned off the only escape route..This all lead to us being a bit more cautious than usual for a plant that has been closed this length of time. We covered the top levels of the boiler house which were quite bland and uninteresting and then headed for the turbines. Although there was no one to be seen a fair bit of kit was still running and on the second trip the floor had been freshly mopped and was still wet.. We didn't hang around too long near the turbines instead opting to have a look at the lower levels of the boiler house. This is a a part i hadn't seen photos of but it must be one of the highlights of the building. A proper cathedral of industry!
