Lostock Power Station, originally owned by Bowman Thompson & Company, was one of the UK's last remaining coal-fired power stations. It was later sold to Brunner Mond in 1900 and produced sixty tonnes of soda ash a day, increasing to 800 tonnes a day by 1926 with all of the Brunner Mond assets being turned over to ICI. It was decommissioned in 2000 when E.ON built their new Combined Heat & Power plant at Winnington, and planning permission has been granted for a new sustainable energy plant to be built on the site.
With this site being located next to an active plant we were careful not to get caught by the workers on our way in, and even throughout the power station there were areas where the workers opposite were in full view. I'm a fan of industrial buildings in particular and the turbine hall was awesome. A couple hours were spent in this building, we were clocked by a van on our way out who attempted to chase us but we made a swift exit.
