a short while ago we explored the former mecca bingo hall which sadly closed its doors on august 14th 2022 after many years of fun and laughter and has sat abandoned ever since. the site was origanlly an odeon cinema which first opened in 1938 but sadly had to close due to a fire in 1975 and claimed the life on one person. later it was repurposed as the mecca bingo hall which opened in 1998 and remained open until 2022 when it shut its doors for the final time. its not clear what will happen to the site though it is slowly being destroyed by the relentless onslaught of copper thieves.
