This has been reported on here a few times before so I don’t feel a full, in-depth history is required. New Scotland Yard has been the Metropolitan Police headquarters since 1967, after moving from its previous address on Victoria Embankment. The name derives from its original location in Whitehall Place, which had a rear entrance on a street called Great Scotland Yard. This later became the main public entrance to the police station. In 2013 the Met police confirmed that the New Scotland Yard building would be sold and the forces HQ will be moved back to its former site on Victoria Embankment and re-named Scotland Yard.
This evening was all about gaining access and it was a very entertaining and funny night. After a very kind invite from @starlight we headed up to London and straight to arguably the most infamous police station in the world. After gaining access to the underground car park we headed straight for the stairwell and unfortunately straight into a security guard! Somehow we managed to blag our way past him and continued to the roof. When on about floor 10 we heard him chasing up after us so we hid away in a random room hearing him calling out to us and seeing his torchlight flashing around looking to throw us out. We slipped past him and soon found ourselves on the roof which has the most amazing view of London I’ve ever seen! We only managed a few shots before he caught us up and what had been probably the nicest security guard I’ve ever met suddenly became a bit more aggy. He walked us back down to chuck us out, unfortunately on the way, he became lost himself!!! When we did finally found our way out, we held off for an hour or so, met a few others (don’t know your names on here I’m afraid) and went back in. This time, unchallenged and were able to roam around the building and spend hours on the roof and just enjoy the view with a few cans and some D+B playing.
I didn’t get too many internal shots, most of the ones I did were just phone pics. But this place is all about the view and the fact of what building you’re standing on to see it.
This night is right up there on my best nights ever and has got me the bug to do more roofs in the city where I grew up.
Hope you enjoy the pics.
And then the view from the roof...
