I struggled to find much information about this place but I did discover the following:
A military airport was already located here in the 1940s. It was paved in the 1950s and functioned as a Hungarian military airport until 1960, and as a Soviet military airport between 1960 and the autumn of 1990. The current runways were constructed in 1982.
I first saw these buildings in 2009 but couldn't get to explore them as at that point there where security guards patrolling the area and as the vegetation was low and the grounds being maintained you would be spotted in a minute from the main road. So after retuning to Hungary this month I was shocked to discover that not only had the forest reclaimed most of the base and there was not one security guard on site but most of the buildings had actually been given to a local Airsoft team to use.
unfortunately the day I chose to explore just happened to be the day that the Airsoft team where using the area, while I couldn't see anyone I could hear the gun shots and the guard dogs. So not wanting to get shot down with BB pellets I chose to get in and out quite quickly. I hope to go back next year again and get a day where the Airsoft team are not around and I can explore further.
So for now here are the photos that I managed to get:
