We visited this place during a busy weekend. Situated next to the main entrance for Formby beach we weren’t sure what to expect. Having only seen pictures of the inside we were shocked to find an outdoor pool/jacuzzi. With all of the palm trees it felt like we were abroad or something. Whilst walking round the perimeter of the building we found an entrance and made our way inside! The place has seen better days but overall such a good explore.
History -
Pinetops in Formby, originally a house built in 1853 by Dr. Richard Formby, evolved into a popular health club and nightclub, eventually closing in 2015 and featuring in Netflix's "Stay Close". Back in 2009 Pinetops was damaged in an arson attack and the owner had his vehicle petrol bombed whilst another property of his sprayed with bullets. Rumours are the attacks were related to a failed business deal. Following closure in August 2016 a further fire broke out within the building causing significant damage, local police confirmed a man died whilst trapped inside.
The former Pinetops health and beauty club once rang out to the sounds of customers enjoying its leisure facilities, including heated pools and multiple sauna rooms. Known to host outdoor pool parties with local DJ’s. With an adjoining nightclub known as Shorrocks Hill, all played host to visiting footballers, celebrities and other high class clientele.
