Hi All,
It is my first post on this site. so..hello everyone English is not my native language, ... sorry for any mistakes
As you are probably aware (or not), we have a lot of interesting "secret" sites here in Poland.
This time I would like to present one of them from the 2nd WW. It is the "Wolfsschanze" ("Wolf's Lair"). It was Adolf Hitler's first of World War II Eastern Front military headquarters. It is based in the very heart of Mazurian forests. This region (East Prussia) before II WW belonged to Germany. Currently it is eastern north part of Poland.
The "Wolf's lair" in fact was like a small hidden town. It consist of many buildings (around 200), shelters, barracks, 2 airports, etc. In 44' over 2000 people lived up there. It was so secret place that even local people didn't know what's actually going on up there. Each of the major nazi-german dignitaries had his own bunker here (Hitler, Goring, Himmler, Bormann, Keitel, Goebbels, and others). It is also known from one of the Hitler's assassination attempt. Claus von Stauffenberg carried a bomb hidden in a briefcase into the meeting room and placed it just a few feet away from Hitler. Bomb exploded. However, Hitler somehow survived . If you are interested in more details regarding this place, refer to the links below:

Additionally here you can find some of the pictures from my visit in 2007.
Currently, most of the shelters are badly damaged, as germans blew up most of them at the end of war.
You can spend a night up there, there is a small hotel in the ex. camp casino. Standard is not very high, but it is cheap and provides you quite extraordinary experience, as you think about the history of that place.
