I have always fancied this tower. I do have a thing for any control towers. This one is a bit different that it's not built as your usual airfield ATC tower but for RAE Beford. We had tried this a few years before without much luck, so was glad to complete this tower. The tower here was built in 1957 and replaced the original tower. The airfield was used for testing various planes. And the naval air department and BEA helicopters experimental unit was based here for a while. In association with the world Nd tunnels it was a leading site in testing. The harrier was heavily tested here. The site was shut in 1994, when all operations at the airfields were moved to RAF Boscombe down. The wind tunnels closed later and staff relocated to Farnborough.
