Monk has been going on about this place for ages. About how a few years ago you could just walk straight in, or occasionally the farmer leaves the door open when he pumps the water out.
We've been up there plenty of times over the last few years, on the off chance that it might be open, but no such luck.
In 2004, Subbrit had permission to access the R3 and pump the water out.
Their pretty impressive report and the history of RAF Wartling can be found HERE
even if they do state that the steel door had been welded shut after their visit.
You should of seen the grin on Monks face when that door opened. Bless his little cotton socks.
There is generators, pumps and lighting rigs down there, so there is definitely some activity going on down there.

The mounting for the plotting table that would have had radar images projected on to it from below by the Kelvin Hughes projector. Apparently, The R3 at Wartling is the only GCI station to retain any evidence of one of these projector systems.:
