After hearing from a few of my friends about Rauceby I decided to get myself over there (my car broke down so I went with a friend). I didn't take my camera into the clock tower unfortunately but my friend got some shots with his smartphone
The building itself was originally designed by GT Hine, construction started in 1897 and was finished in 1902. It was operated by the Kesteven Council, named Kesteven Mental Hospital and later was renamed in 1924 to Rauceby Mental Hospital.
During the year of 1940 it was taken over by the Royal Air force as a crash and burns unit during the second world war, and was one of the first hospital's to practise plastic surgery for the pilots of the war.
Since then it has changed hands several times until it was finally closed in 1997, and abandoned. From 2004 onwards parts of the site have undergone development into private housing.
For me it was a very interesting experience and I hope to visit more places like this.
Enjoy
