Report - River Sherbourne, Coventry. Jan 2015

The River Sherbourne runs within a large culvert from west to east for about 1.25 miles under Coventry.
for the majority of the culvert it's a nice easy stroll with a bit of rubble at the infall.
About a third of the way along the culvert is a brief open air section of about 20 metres.

The River Sherbourne is a river that flows under the centre of the city of Coventry, in the West Midlands, of England.

The source of the river is in the fields of Hawkes End in the Parish of Allesley. From where it flows south continuing through Spon End (where it is spanned by "Vignoles Bridge") and the city centre, where it is culverted just before it reaches the Inner Ring Road and Spon Street, and through the suburb of Whitley. It joins the River Sowe south of the A45 road near Baginton,and eventually flows into the River Avon near Stoneleigh.

The name Sherbourne is said to derive from "Scir Burna"....clear stream.

Nice one, the Telegraph did a centre page spread on Raddog and I's visit quite a few years ago, it was the biggest thing to happen in Coventry since the Snow on Cross Cheaping outrage!

I do love that little bridge building, one of the few streets not gobbled up by the developers in the 50's.

No smell of it, I think one of them leads up to Swanswell Park and that the other comes from the canal as an overflow

I drove down the M6

I didn't see anyone else down there but it's unusual to find other people just walking in culverts
