More of a update than a full blown report. its still there.....

History:

Rosslynlee Hospital was founded in 1874 under its original name of Midlothian and Peebles Asylum (1874 - 1948) then changed its name to Rosslynlee Mental Hospital (1948-60). Set in 64 acres of land, it was a psychiatric hospital until late 2010 and eventually closed early 2011 as it was deemed surplus to requirements due to the construction of the New Midlothian Community Hospital at Mayshade, Eskbank which was completed in September 2010.

Rosslynlee Hospital is a Category C Listed Building and used to house a closed community of up to 500 patients within its extensive grounds.

So I'm up in Scotland for work and decided to see what was local, off I went looking for a way in, its not easy here as they have sealed bits off once inside. messing around and getting in a few of the outer and end buildings then Jackpot the front door was open lol. unfortunately the surveyors were in so I didn't have long, will probably pop back if I'm in the area, as I do like an Asylum.

All Pictures taken on my phone so please excuse the dodgy editing.

Great photos, thank you.
I worked here in 1995/1996 in the old ward 10 down the external passageway to one of the end buildings. All gates and doors were locked and we carried a key usually attached to you by a chain. It was a sad and depressing place. In September of 1996 I was advised my contract wasn't being renewed as care in the community was coming in and the hospital would be closing. I can't believe it took about another 14 years to close. I remember many incidents well. One that sticks in my mind was taking a body to the mortuary one night in the dark. The mortuary was a tiny external building and you had to go outside to get to it. I was on my own, had to get keys first took body to mortuary opened up and when inside opened fridge and pulled out trolley to put body on, can't remember if it was two or three high but it was basically a long metal tray on a frame with two long legs and casters on bottom. I didn't realise the other end was not fixed and pulled it out too far and the back end fell of the runners and it all clattered to the floor landing there via the body below. It took me sometime to sort it all out. These are great photos. I keep meaning to revisit it as I could probably put quite a good description to them.
Another asylum worth a visit is Bangour Village Hospital near Dechmont in West Lothian between Broxburn and Bathgate. However haven't been there for many years and don't know what's left there now if anything.
