Crazy weather day, entered the tunnels and it was the most beautiful spring day. upon exiting it was a 'bit' different, Anyhow. Struggling to find any info on these tunnels , local knowledge says that they are from around the late 1700's used to quarry stone with mad rumours that they stretch to the lake district:crazy.
There are quite a few original 'fittings' to be seen en route, what is clear from the moment you enter is the sheer scale of this place it is huge and clearly we were not the first to venture in due to the amount of string and markings on the walls. We were in for over 2 hours before turning back and typically things looked like they were going to get more interesting. Another trip is pencilled for 2 weeks time to see what lies beyond!!! Any Volunteers?
