This had been on my 'to do' list for quite some time, so while in the area looking at something else we decided to get this one looked at and hopefully ticked off. I had an idea the big graffiti covered outfall led to a pumping station and was hoping it was open to the compound and the sewer system it serves.
After around 400m of featurless plain concrete box we emerged back into open air greeted by a ladder in front of us. One level up is a screened sewer overflow and looming above that was the tell tale sloping structure of the archimedes screw pumps we were hoping for. Once on the mezzanine floor at the top of the ladder with the sewer running below us we made our way around the building to find another two sets of screw pumps working on another incoming sewer.
While in the lower of the two sewers my head was really spinning after 10 minutes so there is some really bad air in there.
