‘Built on part of the site of the old Sherwood Forester Regimental Barracks on Foresters Way, close to Sinfin Lane. The Showcase Cinemas opened on 17th November 1988, just two weeks before Derby’s 2nd multiplex; the AMC (later UCI and now Odeon Luxe Derby) had opened. This gave the city of Derby the distinction of being the first city in the UK to have two multiplex cinemas operating.
It was closed in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It later re-opened but closed permanently in January 2021. In June 2021 it was announced that the building would be demolished and a car dealership will be built on the site.’
Being a late 80s build it’s pretty bland inside and you certainly don’t need to stick your head into all 11 screens to get the jist of the place. But it was a relaxed, local wander and a few bits & bobs to make it interesting.
Foyer
'Cockmaster 6'
Various screens
All pretty samey as you can imagine!
Only one film projector remained
And a few miscellaneous bits to end with
