In 2017 North Ayrshire Council gave planning permission for the siting of one portacabin to act as a wet weather visitor reception point for the monitoring post and the creation of a small car park.
Skelmorlie monitoring post (25 Group 23 Post) was the first restored post available for public tours under the Open Doors programme in 2004 and has seen hundreds of visitors over that 13 year period.
It is the intention to hold a more frequent visitor programme starting late April until September this year staffed by ex-Corps personnel who actually served at the post when it was operational. The tours last approximately one hour and a range of original Corps equipment will be brought to the site to explain/show the Cold War role.
