Slim Pickings is a combined sewer overflow in Manchester that outfalls to the River Medlock, and has some of the best brickwork I have seen. A 12-minute walk through some 2m RCP takes us to the brick overflow chamber.
Above this part of the chamber are several concrete levels, connected by ladders, leading to a manhole on the surface.
2 other sets of ladders provide access to the other side of a bisecting wall. This area consists of a stilling pond and a large, stepped tunnel.
The Work 6 interceptor sewer enters the chamber from a 9’ brick pipe.
Looking back down towards the bisecting wall and scumboard above.
Small penstock to regulate the flow.
2m outfall RCP leading to the River Medlock.
