Smurfit Kappa Pump Station

Cant find a lot about this place, i thought it had been covered before but cant find report so anyone feel free to link it?

There is lots of history of the paper mills that have been on this site for many years here THE PAPER MILL: EARLY HISTORY, the current mill is still live & owned by smurfit as many across the country are.

​

This site is the old water processing plant that was presumably used in the manufacturing process but is now surplus to requirements.

The explore
This was as usual just a quick stop off I did while down south on my own last year. easy enough though climbing the fence on a very busy thoroughfare was interesting & coming out I was hid in the hedge waiting for a opening while people walked just feet away without noticing.

I can at least appear to know what Im looking at here... This was the gravity filter house

Settled water pump hs was not bad

Stream Pump Hs is a very similar set up

Moving through the yard there was a small office with not a lot in it

Nice one, I used to have a commute which went past this mill a while back, had noted this on satellite maps once but totally forgot about it

Thanks its not a bad wander. there is a electric room on the back of main pump hs which is still live but otherwise its well hidden from main plant

That's gorgeous mate and a great find. My dad worked at Smurfit in St Helens when I was a kid. We moved to Norwich when the factory shut down and he got a job in Norwich corrugated board, which ironically got bought out by Smurfit. My step father worked there as well till he retired. Still two sites here.

Fortunately Im fully inducted to access smurfit sites as we do a fair bit of work in Northampton, not sure they would of accepted that as a valid reason for being in there though lol

Smurfit are international packaging & logistics. the place we spoke about this morn is make card & boxes etc.
they are a huge company, u may of seen their name on shipping containers etc

I might see it when I go and pick up mine then it's in Singapore right now so not to far to go now hopefully customs won't take 2 years to search it lol
